The world has not fully welcomed the iPhones and smart phones properly; they are on the anvil of yet another revolution, this time in the television era. LG and Samsung are planning to launch their smart televisions; these TVs are powered by Google’s Android platform.
LG is about to showcase its first ever LCD television with Android enabled software at Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas. People can have multiple entertainment option with their Android enabled television; they may watch television, can also surf the internet and access social networking sites, side by side, all at the same time.
The total market size of Android enabled televisions is estimated at about $122 billion by 2016. Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google Inc. has already signaled that 2012 will see a sea of change in the television era and most of the television sets will come with Android based platform. Many people are already calling the device as internet TV and why not as it has all the capabilities to be called so.
The Google TV has for now will have 150 apps which are far less in comparison with its Android enabled smart phones that enjoy access to millions of apps worldwide. But Google is determined that ones after the launch of the Google TV, more apps will be available for access worldwide by Google and other companies.
Talking about Google, how can Apple be left behind? Apple is all geared up to take the challenge head on, as it is also launching iTV in the market. Apple’s iTV will be embedded with its iconic ‘Siri’ feature which is already working in millions of Apple’s iPhone. But according to the market analysts, Apple engineers are working on something bigger, they want to bring about gesture recognition technology in the iTVs and revolutionize the television market and leave its rival arch Google way behind.
Whatever be the case, it’s the consumers who will experience the different TV viewing and the only outcome of this rivalry between the two world’s most ambitious companies will be consumer’s gain and delight. So, fasten your seat belts and be ready for internet TV.
